MONTGOMERY, Ala. —On Thursday, October 26, the city of Montgomery held its final yearly
gathering to recognize and thank all veterans of the armed forces. The meeting was held at the Armory Learning Arts Center, at 1018 Madison Avenue. Mayor Steven Reed served as the event’s host.
Retired Brigadier General Trent Edwards was on hand to address the attendees. The Montgomery Military Volunteer Commission (MMVC) was founded to help the military community in Montgomery, Alabama. This community includes veterans, active duty service members, reserve and national guard members, civilian employees of the Department of Defense, and military families. Additionally, it intends to bring in additional missions for the city’s many military establishments.

New Car Lot and Shopping Center Proposed for City of Pike Road Gains Plat Approval

MONTGOMERY, Ala. —The Montgomery Planning Commission held its monthly Public Hearing Thursday, June 22, at 5 pm at Montgomery City Hall. The Commission addressed various plat approval requests and rezoning recommendations.
Guthrie Jeffcoat of Jeffcoat Engineers & Surveyors attended (at 2:55 – 7:15 of video) on behalf of his client, Roy Moore, to gain a plat approval. The request is for Plat No. 1 located in an AGR-1 (Residential Agriculture) Zoning District at the southwest corner of US Highway 80 East and Mose Lee Road. The plat is currently designated as residential agriculture and will need to be rezoned before it can be utilized for any commercial use.

Jeffcoat Engineers states Roy Moore intends to use the half acre of land as retail space for a used car lot with an access point coming from Mose Lee Road. The plat request was approved by a unanimous vote from the Planning Committee with a necessary rezoning appeal planned for the near future.
The City of Montgomery Planning Commission is appointed by the City Council to serve voluntarily with no compensation. The Planning Commission holds public hearings on the 4th Thursday of every month, excluding November and December where it is held on the second, for street renaming, plat approval, and rezoning.
Public Hearings are held at 5 pm CDT at 103 N. Perry St. in the Council Chambers of Montgomery City Hall.

Szymanski aims to woo District 7 residents at neighborhood Meet & Greet at Fitzgerald Museum
MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Montgomery City Council candidate Andrew Szymanski is hosting a Meet & Greet Thursday, June 22, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Fitzgerald Museum in Montgomery. This event is a part of Szymanski’s 2023 election campaign hopes to win the District 7 council seat.
The Meet and Greet is sponsored by Jennifer Dutton-Henderson and Bo Henderson, who are friends of Szymanski. Funky Forte will be present at the event to provide refreshments, and Village Green Records will be there providing entertainment and music. Andrew Szymanski is running with a focus on communication, small business, property, public safety, and effective planning and action. Szymanski aims to re-imagine Montgomery as an exciting and affordable place for families, young professionals, and entrepreneurs.
2023 municipal elections for Mayor and City Council are August 22. Runoffs, if necessary, are scheduled for October 3.
The 2023 Montgomery Municipal Election for Mayor and City Council is set for August 22, with a runoff, if necessary, on October 3, 2023. District 7 polling locations are at Saint Paul AME Church, Cleveland Avenue YMCA, Drum Theater on the campus of Huntingdon College, and the St. James Baptist Church at Holt Crossing. Any updates regarding polling locations will be mailed to residents by mid-July.
