Mayor Reed names Col. Jerime Reid as new city COO
Jerime Reid appointed as new Chief Operating Officer for Montgomery.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. โ On March 27, Mayor Steven Reid named former Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base Vice Wing Commander Col. Jerime Reid as Chief Operating Officer for the City of Montgomery.
The press release states “Reid brings vast senior executive leadership experience in the United States Air Force. In this senior cabinet position, Reid will utilize data to set comprehensive goals for performance and departmental growth in city departments โresulting in better service to residents. He will also devise strategies to preserve resources through new, innovative technology and management solutions.”

His service in the Air Force includes time as Director of Personnel at Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base and Director of Operations for HQ Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He is a graduate of the Air War College, the University of Texas, and Air Command and Staff College. He earned a masterโs degree from the University of South Carolina.
โJerime will identify ways to cut red tape and navigate bureaucracy to create departmental operating strategies that will enhance the level of service we offer our residents,โ Mayor Reed said. โHe will help foster a more responsive, efficient and effective city government by using data to drive decision making and performance improvement.โ

New Car Lot and Shopping Center Proposed for City of Pike Road Gains Plat Approval

MONTGOMERY, Ala. โThe Montgomery Planning Commission held its monthly Public Hearing Thursday, June 22, at 5 pm at Montgomery City Hall. The Commission addressed various plat approval requests and rezoning recommendations.
Guthrie Jeffcoat of Jeffcoat Engineers & Surveyors attended (at 2:55 โ 7:15 of video) on behalf of his client, Roy Moore, to gain a plat approval. The request is for Plat No. 1 located in an AGR-1 (Residential Agriculture) Zoning District at the southwest corner of US Highway 80 East and Mose Lee Road. The plat is currently designated as residential agriculture and will need to be rezoned before it can be utilized for any commercial use.

Jeffcoat Engineers states Roy Moore intends to use the half acre of land as retail space for a used car lot with an access point coming from Mose Lee Road. The plat request was approved by a unanimous vote from the Planning Committee with a necessary rezoning appeal planned for the near future.
The City of Montgomery Planning Commission is appointed by the City Council to serve voluntarily with no compensation. The Planning Commission holds public hearings on the 4th Thursday of every month, excluding November and December where it is held on the second, for street renaming, plat approval, and rezoning.
Public Hearings are held at 5 pm CDT at 103 N. Perry St. in the Council Chambers of Montgomery City Hall.

Montgomery Transit Observes National Safety Month

MONTGOMERY, Ala. โ Montgomery Transit, known as the M, is observing National Safety Month through four initiatives aimed at ensuring passenger safety. Via a June 12 press release, the city’s transit agency stated goals are accident and injury prevention, enhanced security, infrastructure safety, and emergency preparedness.
The transit system’s fleet undergo regular inspections and servicing to ensure mechanical soundness. Investment in vehicle maintenance and driver training significantly reduces the risk of accidents and injuries. New emergency call buttons and driver training increases the M’s ability to handle emergencies while en route. The M Transit also has comprehensive emergency response plans in place, including for medical emergencies, fires, natural disasters, and security threats. The M Transit dates to the late 19th century when the Capital City Railway Company introduced America’s first citywide Electric Trolley system, also known as the “Lightning Route.”
To make traveling on the M Transit more convenient, passengers are encouraged to download the TransLoc rider app. Through the app, passengers can utilize real-time bus tracking, set alerts, and receive updates as their bus approaches.

Boeing Red Tails Classic Returns to Cramton Bowl to Kickoff 2023 College Football Season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. โSports network ESPN announced its college football television schedule for 2023 season, including the Red Tails Classic at Cramton Bowl.
The Red Tails classic is scheduled to be televised nationally from Montgomery on September 3rd. The game honors the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen while celebrating the historical tradition of HBCU classic football games. Tuskegee’s Golden Tigers will face off against Fort Valley State’s Wildcats at 6 pm, and available on ESPNU. Tuskegee and Fort Valley are considered rivals within the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

The relationship between ESPN and the city of Montgomery for this classic continues to blossom with things starting in 2021 to more than 24,000 fans in attendance โduring the pandemic. That inaugural game scored the highest viewership ratings for primetime Wednesday Night Football within a decade. Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Montgomery will be a busy football city the extended Labor Day holiday weekend with Alabama State welcoming SWAC foe Southern University on campus at 5 pm Saturday, September 2nd.
