MONTGOMERY, Ala. โ€” Montgomery Transit, known as the M, is observing National Safety Month through four initiatives aimed at ensuring passenger safety. Via a June 12 press release, the city’s transit agency stated goals are accident and injury prevention, enhanced security, infrastructure safety, and emergency preparedness.

The transit system’s fleet undergo regular inspections and servicing to ensure mechanical soundness. Investment in vehicle maintenance and driver training significantly reduces the risk of accidents and injuries. New emergency call buttons and driver training increases the M’s ability to handle emergencies while en route. The M Transit also has comprehensive emergency response plans in place, including for medical emergencies, fires, natural disasters, and security threats. The M Transit dates to the late 19th century when the Capital City Railway Company introduced America’s first citywide Electric Trolley system, also known as the “Lightning Route.”
To make traveling on the M Transit more convenient, passengers are encouraged to download the TransLoc rider app. Through the app, passengers can utilize real-time bus tracking, set alerts, and receive updates as their bus approaches.
