Mayor Reed Urges Citizens to Vote on Election Day
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Mayor Reed has called for people to vote. On November 8, Mayor Reed took to Twitter to express, “Today is Election Day all across the country. If you haven’t voted yet please be sure to do it so your voice can be heard because so much is at stake.” In addition to Twitter, Mayor Reed also utilized his Instagram to repost @/whenweallvote to educate and engage users on how voting works.
There are several positions that politicians are running to be re-elected for. Citizens of Montgomery will be voting for Alabama governor, Alabama U.S. Senate, Alabama U.S. House, and Alabama State Senate to name a few. The current Alabama governor, Kay Ivey, will be running against Yolanda Flowers (Democratic) and James Blake (Libertarian). The election results have not yet been confirmed, as voting will be taking place until later this evening. Voters have expressed their thoughts on voting in Montgomery. Elly, a user who goes by @/Ephemeral2 on Twitter wrote, “Montgomery, Alabama. I was there about 10:30. Busy! That was unusual but voting went smoothly…”
Currently, the city of Montgomery is run on a mayor-council system, which is one that has a mayor that is voted in and a separately elected council. Elections take place every four years for the city of Montgomery. As of now, Mayor Reed’s term is expected to end in 2023 and there is no word on whether he will be running for a second term.
